Overtime: Yes, approximately 10-20 hours
Travel: Yes, internationally and domestically
Shift: Must be able to work any shift (1st: 5:30-2:30/3 / 2nd: 2:30-11:30 / 3rd: 11:30-6) Weekend work will be required (ex: Saturdays will be frequent)
 
Summary:
  • Proposes and evaluates manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Directs the design, development and/or improvements of manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Interacts on a regular basis with design and product engineering activities to determine manufacturing feasibility of future product design
  • Provides technical direction to engineering support personnel and outside vendor design sources
  • Diagnosis and correct deficiencies in manufacturing processes
  • Stays abreast of new technology, including robotics, computer graphics, and computer controls
  • Evaluates expenditures for processes and/or equipment
  • Provides technical assistance and training for assigned plant operations
  • Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for design, development, testing, and control of major engineering projects involving tools, equipment, plant and manufacturing processes in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.
  • Supervise a small to medium size group of employees engaged in various engineering projects in connection with engine / transmission assembly and machining and/or rearrangement of plant facilities. Substantial independent judgment is exercised in complex or unusual situations. Work is difficult and of a technical nature.
  • Proposes and evaluates manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Directs the design, development and/or improvements of manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Helps develop budgets and forecasts within assigned area and maintains cost controls
  • Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs
  • Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
  • Participates in the selection of new employees
  • Trains, develops and evaluates employees
  • Coordinates the flow of information between departments and organizations with the plant, functions and/or Corporation
  • Participates in short and long range planning of facilities design
  • Regular contact with others outside the work group
  • Maintains safety and good housekeeping standards
 
Position Requirements:
  • 10+ years in experience
  • Experience with the following: PLC's (Rockwell, Siemens), Drives (Rockwell, Siemens), Fanuc Robotics 30IA Controllers, CNC (Siemens 840D, Fanuc CNC 30IB), Networking (Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet IP), Vision (Cognex, Dalsa), Safety PLC (Siemens, Rockwell)
  • Thorough knowledge of machine tools, automation, and machining centers
  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
  • Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to manufacturing in a Powertrain facility
  • Ability to read and interpret Electrical drawings
  • Deep technical knowledge and ability in the electrical engineering discipline
  • Interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and significantly complex projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results
  • Proven ability in project management skills and ability to teach others
 
Basic Preferred
  • MS in Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
  • Advanced Troubleshooting and Programming skills
  • Knowledge of GM Powertrain Equipment Specifications
  • Worked in Unionized environment
 
Education
  • College degree with a major in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
