Managers Specifications:
  • Responsible for mechanical design and packaging requirements for products ranging from small electronic control modules to sophisticated Automatic and Manual Climate Control Modules.
Position Responsibility:
  • Responsible lead for all mechanical design activities for HVAC Climate control heads. This includes plastic design, PCB design, display technology, connector technology, button haptic, and knob haptic and lighting.
  • Develop and maintain Bills of Materials for new and existing designs.
  • Development of conceptual designs and CAD data for new business projects.
  • Develop and maintain timing plan for projects and ensure tool kick off dates are met.
  • Provide CAD and drawings (2D & 3D) to customer and suppliers as needed per company processes and regulations.
  • Assist and support customer and supplier weekly meetings in a professional manner.
  • Work with quality on tool design, coordinate FEA and mold flow analysis with company experts.
  • Manage suppliers on design and tooling activities. Plastics, stampings, connectors, LEDs, purchased potentiometers/switches.
  • Adherence to project management plan to assure that the product meets customer timing.
  • Design for test requirements, analyze materials and shrink rates.
  • Design knob and button haptics, perform tolerance stack ups, consideration of noise and wobble.
  • Supervise validation testing to prove the design meets customer specification.
  • Identify and coordinate design validation of haptics and lighting.
  • Develop new product ideas to allow advancement in market shares.
  • Lead technical contact with suppliers related to specification and design topics. Prepare specifications and drawings for suppliers.
  • Review dimensional data from first shots along with Quality department assistance. Recommend tooling modifications for tooling issues.
  • Support manufacturing topics with current model, suppliers, plastic tooling.
  • Evaluate supplier requests for deviations.
  • Supports Design for Manufacturing, interfaces with manufacturing on the design of process fixtures, equipment and assembly.
Position Requirements
  • Four (4) to five (5) years experience in automotive module design; minimum two (2) years in human machine interface design preferred
  • BSME required; MSME preferred
  • Experience / expertise with CAD systems including Catia v5 and Unigraphics
  • Experience with automotive module lighting techniques, design and analysis
  • Ability to interface with the customer in a professional manner
  • Excellent communication skills, clear presentation and design description skills to be presented to co-workers and customers
  • Decorative plastics experience, metal stamping experience
  • Strong knowledge of GD & T
  • Lighting, display and haptic knob/button experience preferred
  • Strong leadership skills ability to coordinate designs with international locations
  • Experience with automotive processes and materials, including connectors and PCB's. Experience in interior decorative plastic components, preferred
  • Experience in thermal management and sealing in harsh automotive environments
  • Good MS-Office and MS-project skills.
  • Ability to travel to local customers (once/week average)
  • International travel to Germany headquarters and global molders (occasionally)
  • German language skills are a plus
