Title: Mechanical Engineering Manager (17-00637)
Location: Farmington Hills, MI
Base Compensation: $90K-$110K/Year
Type of hire: Direct
Travel: Approximately 15%-20% primarily local with occasional domestic or international

Position Summary:
The Mechanical Engineering Manager will perform all activities associated with managing the mechanical engineering team as well as actively designing for the machine tool industry. Responsibilities include scheduling the design group, interacting with 3rd party contractors, and close interaction with project management and operations in a positive and focused manner to realize productive results. Clear inter-departmental communication is necessary, as are frequent customer discussions. The individual must also provide accurate and high-quality engineering work.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for design of all mechanical components and systems for customer ordered and internal machines
  • Monitor engineering activities through the build phase of each project
  • Supervise, evaluate, and allocate engineering personnel and outside engineering vendors
  • Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans;
  • Assign personnel to phases and elements of the project
  • Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards
  • Complete technical studies
  • Prepare cost estimates
  • Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests
  • Determine project schedule by studying project plan and specifications, calculates time requirements, sequences project elements
  • Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems
  • Control project plan by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends and recommending actions
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Maintain project database
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing relating results as needed
Position Requirements:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 7+ years' related experience with automation design applications within the machine tool industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks
  • 2-3 years' experience overseeing a team of designers (preferably as a manager, team lead or sr. designer)
