Title: Project Engineer
Job ID: (18-00205)
This is a Direct/Permanent Position with a Tier 1 Automotive Supplier in the Troy, MI area.

Position Responsibilities:
• Manage product engineering activities on rolled goods product.
• Responsible for bringing to market in-house rolled goods. This position encompasses a base knowledge of vehicle interior materials, design, and process.
• Activities will include developing, specifying, and validating roll good construction for specific production programs. That includes meeting physical properties and appearance requirements (color, gloss etc.).
• Support customers to achieve these customer requirements. The position requires strong interpersonal skills as they interact with a large cross functional Product Development Team in their daily duties.
• Conduct complete release and validation activities.
• Provide technical support to internal and external customers and suppliers.
• Conduct, propose and maintain cost analysis, support sales and customer timing for timely quote submission for new products, and changes.
• Lead flawless launch of product, and projects including managing timing and cost.
• Mange product release and validation processes

Position Requirements:
• Bachelor degree in manufacturing and polymer /plastics, mechanical engineering, or relative fields.
• Minimum 3 year experience in polymer/plastics processing, paint/coating, adhesive, composites, and application engineering.
• Ability to travel to support plant launches (25%-50% both domestically and internationally).
• Knowledge and experience with polymer synthetic, modification, and compounding, and plastics production.
• Understanding of appearance, color and gloss requirements to support final product to end customers.
• Experience in working with suppliers and customers.
• Problem solving skills in polymer materials, color management, manufacturing and applications.
• Knowledge and experience in material characterization and product performance tests.
• Project management skills – must be able to handle complex projects and multi-task.
• Strong computer skills, self-starter, and strong communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of FMEA tools (DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans).
• Basic knowledge of systematic problem solving.

Preferred:
• Advanced degree(s) in manufacturing and or polymer /plastics, mechanical engineering, or relative fields
• Familiar with Design of Experiment and statistical analysis for quality applications and problem solving.
• Familiarity with color approval processes and procedures.
• Experience / knowledge in plastic compounds design, processing and manufacturing, and applications
• Knowledge and experience in automotive and other polymer/plastic industries
